There are 4 core subjects for students entering 1st Year in 2026 – Irish, English, Maths, and History. They will also study SPHE, CSPE & PE as part of the Wellbeing curriculum as well as religion, computers & social studies. Prior to starting in BCS students will choose 6 subjects from the list of Option Subjects here:
Students will continue with the core subjects of Irish, English, maths and history as well as SPHE, CSPE, PE and religion. Prior to starting in 2nd Year, students will be required to indicate which 5 of their 6 Option Subjects they wish to continue with for Junior Cycle. Irish, English & Maths will be available at Higher and Ordinary level while all other subjects will be Common Level.
Here at BCS, we have compiled an information booklet that should help to inform you when making decisions about Leaving Certificate subjects. Added to this we hold a 5th Year Information Evening in January/February where you and your parents/guardians can ask subject teachers any questions you might have about specific subject areas.
