Parent/Guardian Talk

Dear Parents/Guardians
Link below is Now UPDATED

I wish to invite you to a very important parental talk on Monday March 11th @7.30 pm, from a SATU forensic examiner, Margo Noonan. Margo has been coming to BCS since 2018 to talk to all senior students regarding sexual consent and wellbeing and has proven a very valuable resource for us over the years.

She has agreed to talk to all parents of BCS regarding the safety and wellbeing of their teenage sons/daughters who are often unaware of their rights and responsibilities in the area of sexual relationship education. Margo presents the Assume Programme to both 2nd and 3rd level students and this has proven very successful in proactively keeping young adults safe as they deal with the many challenges of modern society. She is a forensic examiner with the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in St Finbarr’s Hospital Cork and is a frontline worker when it comes to dealing with very difficult criminal cases regarding sexual violence.

The ASSUME program.
The ASSUME program is based on the premise of challenging assumptions, encouraging young people to think before they ASSUME they understand something without having the facts particularly about consent and how it applies to them as adolescents. As an element of her role as a sexual assault forensic examiner the presenter has been delivering educational interventions about sexual health and sexual violence to adolescents in several rural and urban post primary schools for several years. In conjunction with this the researcher provides acute and follow up forensic and medical care to male and female victims of sexual violence. This experience was utilised in the development of the educational component which uses fact-based information and accounts of sexual violence cases to challenge commonly held misconceptions about sexual violence and sexual health. Svensson et al (2019) advocate that a protective barrier towards rape myth acceptance is having accurate knowledge about sexual violence.

You will find a booking form attached which we would like you to complete if you wish to attend this talk and look forward to seeing you in BCS next Monday night.
