Music
Music in Blackwater Community School focuses on performance in a wide range of genres to encourage greater access and participation in the subject. School based musical activities such as choir and traditional ensembles take place on a regular basis.
Course Content
- Students express their interest in studying music before coming into first year.
- They can then decide to keep it in 2nd and 3rd year in preparation for the Junior Cert.
- The performance element of the exam is worth 30%.
- Following on then to the Leaving Certificate where up to 50% can be obtained in performance and students study a range of music from the Beatles to Bach and from Queen to Mozart.
