Badminton

Competitions:

County, Munster & All-Ireland competitions are run in the following age-groups & divisions:

  • U14, U16 & U19 Boys : Divisions 1, 2, 3
  • U14, U16 & U19 Girls : Divisions 1, 2, 3

Competition format: 4 singles & 2 doubles

The Waterford county competition is usually held in November in Blackwater Community School. All school teams are entered into this competition. Teams that win Division 1 in the county competition qualify for the Munster competitions held in the University of Limerick in January. Teams may then qualify for the All-Ireland finals held in Gormanstown in March.

  • Numerous county titles
  • Numerous Munster titles
  • U14 Boys All-Ireland winners in 2016 & 2019
  • All-Ireland finalists in 2017 & 2018
  • U14 Girls All-Ireland finalists in 2020 (*not played due to Covid-19)

Training:

Training takes place in the school PE hall one evening per week (Tuesday) from 3:45pm -4:45pm.
Training is open to all boys and girls, from beginners to club players.
Players are encouraged to play with their local clubs.
Division 1 & 2 players need to be a member of a club to play at this standard.

Equipment Required:

The school supplies rackets and shuttles to students. Students may bring their own rackets, which can be stored safely in Room 20 during the school day.
